Project Engineer/Quality Control Specialist – RAC @ 900 Winston – Houston, TX

Royal American Construction is seeking a Project Engineer/Quality Control Specialist for a residential project in Houston, TX. The Project Engineer is an entry level position, who assist the Project Manager and the Superintendent, over providing administrative and technical services in the fields of scheduling, cost engineering, subcontract coordination, and general project administration.  Knowledge of P-6, Procore, Microsoft Outlook and Excel experience preferred. 

The project will last approximately 15 to 18 months.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Superintendent with daily duties
  • Conduct pre-construction and progress meetings
  • Certify that all submittals comply with contract requirements
  • Review all catalog cuts and material submittals for compliance with plans and specifications
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure requirements are met for each construction process
  • Distribute written inspection/test results to appropriate agencies
  • Conduct pre-final inspections / establish punch list if required / ensure all deficiencies are corrected
  • Maintain, update and distribute construction documents (RFIs, ASIs, PRs, etc.)
  • Help to maintain safe work sites
  • Review, expedite, and track submittals
  • Attend job site meetings and maintain meeting minutes
  • Distribute minutes of all the meetings with Sub-contractors, clients and with city officials
  • Create and maintain project schedule
  • Assist in resolving design issues
  • Manage project closeout process, including owner training and archiving project records
  • Field and manage warranty requests
  • Create Work Plans, hazard analysis and maintain MSDS
  • Submit and track material submittals
  • Write, submit, and track Request For Information
  • Keep track of employee time, quantities performed and correspondence with others
  • Coordinate meetings with the subcontractors and project owners
  • Purchase materials for projects, as directed by Project Manager or Project Superintendent
  • Work will take place both in the field and office
  • Some travel may be required
  • Ability / desire to grow into a Project Manager or Superintendent position

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Working knowledge of construction practices and methods, building trades and associated language, RFIs, RFPs, bid analysis, scope and specification development
  • PC literate in Microsoft Office applications with a proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Proficient use of computer aided engineering software
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor project life-cycle baseline schedules for large scale construction projects using Primavera P-6 Scheduling software
  • Utilize the construction management system Procore software
  • Working knowledge of Sage Construction Project Center

Education and Experience:         

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Construction Management / Construction Engineering or a Construction Management Certificate from an accredited university
  • Experience in Submittals and RFI’s
  • 1-2 years of experience as a project engineer, or similar role with a general contractor
  • Knowledge of Primavera P-6 Scheduling software preferred
  • Knowledge of Procore software preferred
  • Knowledge of Sage Construction Project Center preferred

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to drive between job sites and use own or company vehicles and equipment to perform job functions. Valid Driver’s License required
  • Physical ability to work at a computer in two-hour increments to perform data entry and requiring hand and eye coordination
  • Ability to read and effectively communicate with fellow employees
  • Ability to walk through rough construction sites and lift 50 pounds from the ground

Physical Requirements:

  • This is a physically active position requiring walking, standing, sitting, driving
  • Moderate physical activity to include carrying and lifting up to 50 lbs.
